第二个重要的历史时期是1970年代到1980年代的大通胀时代。
大通胀时代其可以分成两个节点的。第一个节点是1973到1974年通胀迅速抬升的阶段，第二个是1979年和1982年的这一段通胀上升。这两段时期都是严重的滞胀时期。在通胀高于10%的时候，同时也发生了严重的经济衰退，可以说是在八九十年代对央行和经济学家的一次非常重要的教训......
