I wasted 3 months trading a tiny live account. Here’s what I should have done instead.

Everyone says “start small”. So I did — $200 on a live account.

But with that size, I couldn’t even risk 0.5% properly on gold because one mini lot was already too big for my risk.

I wasn’t learning position sizing. I was just gambling.

What actually helped:

Going back to a demo account — but treating it like real money.

Not to “test strategies”, but to practice:

  • Volatility-adjusted sizing
  • Holding through drawdown
  • Not over-leveraging just because it’s demo

After 4 weeks of that, I moved back to live with a better size (larger capital, smaller % risk per trade).

If you’re new to forex/gold:

Don’t rush live trading. Master demo first — but only if you use realistic risk.

Question:

How long did you spend on demo before going live? And did it actually prepare you?#XAU/USD##TradeNotes##trading##gold#
