Crude prices spiked sharply after Washington imposed sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil, Russia’s two largest oil producers. The move is aimed at increasing diplomatic pressure on Moscow to seek a resolution in the war against Ukraine.
These sanctions mark the first direct action from the Trump administration since taking office, freezing Russian assets in the U.S. and prohibiting American firms from doing business with them.
At the same time, U.S. oil production and demand are showing robust growth, creating a complex supply ,demand dynamic that could sustain price volatility in the coming weeks.
