交易的实质，就是限制亏损并扩大盈利，也就是常说的“截断亏损让盈利奔跑”， 亏损的最大程度要截断，而趋势到来时要赚的盆满钵满。二者需要同时把握且缺一不可。
“截断亏损”不意味着“不亏损”，交易者不要畏惧止损。一个比较优秀的趋势跟踪策略也只有40%左右的胜率，策略敏感则胜率更低。而失败的交易者的常见观念就是过分追求正确。他们潜意识中为证明自己是正确的而抱着亏损的头寸不放，而早早了结盈利的头寸。抱着亏损的头寸不放确实常常能等到它扭亏为盈，但这种行为会加深交易者的侥幸心理，哪怕后来一次做错可能就会将交易者踢出市场。止损是交易的底线切不可丢。
