全球最流行的货币不外乎七大工业国组织（G7）所发行的货币，包括美金、欧元、日圆、英镑、澳元、瑞士法郎和加币。这些货币衍生的外汇对（Forex Pairs）也是买卖流量最多的。
除了这些国家主权货币以外，其实还有一种流行了数千年的货币，它就是黄金。大多数的外汇平台都会提供XAUUSD，其实就是黄金对美元。简单来说就是需要多少美元才可以买到一个单位的金衡制盎司（Troy Ounce），亦相等于31.1克。
曾经，交易黄金是项很困难的事，因为你必须要买卖实体黄金。时至今日，交易黄金与外汇几乎没什么不同。在外汇平台上买卖的XAUUSD，只不过是以CFD的形式来买卖，实际上是没有真正的黄金交收。如果真的要有实体黄金交易的话，就必须要去芝加哥商品期货交易所或伦敦金属交易所买卖他们的期货合约。
