- The Yomiuri Shimbun reported on Wednesday that the Japanese government was considering extending the emergency in Tokyo and other major metropolitan areas that originally expired on May 11.
Japan declared a 17-day emergency in the provinces of Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo on April 25 to limit the increase in the number of new coronavirus infections.
