主要股指周四开盘持平，因在联邦公开市场委员会(FOMC)主席鲍威尔(Jerome Powell)在杰克逊霍尔研讨会(Jackson Hole Symposium)发表讲话前，投资者离场观望。截至撰写本文时，标准普尔500指数当天下跌0.03%，报4496点;道琼斯工业平均指数上涨0.15%，报35471点;纳斯达克综合指数当天持平，报15035点。
当天早些时候，美国劳工部公布的数据显示，在截至8月21日的一周内，首次申请失业救济人数增加了4000人，达到35.3万人。此外，美国经济分析局(Bureau of Economic Analysis)宣布，将第二季度折合成年率的GDP增长率从6.5%修正为6.6%。
在标准普尔500指数的11个主要板块中，金融类股指数上涨了0.3%，受10年期美国国债收益率上涨超过1%的支撑。另一方面，受美国原油价格下跌1%的影响，能源指数下跌了0.55%。
