《联合早报》12月30日消息，英格兰公共卫生署一项对照研究显示，12月中在英国发现的变异新冠病毒虽然传播速度更快，但与其他变异病毒相比，这种变异病毒似乎并没有导致患者的病情更严重。
据路透社报道，研究人员对感染此变异新冠病毒的患者和“野生毒株”（wild-type）新冠病毒患者进行了比较，两组确诊病例都有1769人，并依照年龄、性别、居住地区和病毒检测时间按1比1的比例进行配对。
根据这项研究，在入院的42人中，16人感染新变种毒株，26人感染野生毒株。在死亡人数方面，新变异毒株的死亡人数有12人，野生毒株的死亡人数有10人。
该研究说，队列研究的初步结果显示，就统计学来看，变异毒株病例和野生毒株病例在住院和28天期病死率方面都没有显著性差异。而与其他变异病毒相比，变异新冠病毒患者再次受感染的可能性也没有显著不同。该研究补充说，“续发率”（Secondary Attack Rate）在变异新冠病毒患者中的比率更高。
