智通财经APP获悉，芝加哥联储总裁查尔斯·埃文斯(Charles Evans)周二表示，在目前的情况下，美联储不能像国会立法者和公共卫生官员那样做很多事情。
埃文斯在底特律经济俱乐部主办的一次演讲中表示：“这是一个公共卫生安全事件，很大程度上关系到消费者、家庭和企业能够外出进行经济活动的信心，我们真的需要财政和公共卫生当局来支持和改善经济环境。”
美联储已经在每月购买1200亿美元的国债和抵押贷款相关债务，以支持金融市场和经济，这比金融危机期间的购买力度更大。埃文斯表示，美联储最终可能会决定购买更多资产，但政府的其他行动更为重要。本月早些时候，美联储主席鲍威尔也曾表示，为帮助经济而做得太少的风险大于做得太多的风险。
