MY TRADING STORY

I started trading out of curiosity. As at the time, I was a freelance writer and just completed my University Degree. An old friend of mine introduced Forex to me. I was really curious about how it works, and that's how the journey began.

I began to read all trading books I could lay my hands on, Disciplined Trader, Forex Legacy, 25 Rules of Trading, to name a few. I also read all the trading articles I saw online. I remember I do search for trading articles online, just to know what it takes to be a trader.

After reading all these books and articles, and attended a few webinars, I went straight to trade on a demo account. It was a completely new world to me as the market moves sometimes and doesn't move some other time. Then, I started to know about fundamentals and how it affects the market. After spending few months on a demo account with a few winnings, I decided to go live.

Trading a live account is very different from trading a demo. The difference is the emotions you get from winning or losing. It affected my performance because any small loss made me feel bad and a small win made me though I was good enough. A few weeks later, I blew the account. It was a terrible experience.

February 12, 2018, I went live again. I created an account with  @FxPro浦汇 and loaded the sum of 97EUROS. I wanted to build the account and I knew it was going to take me some time to get a reasonable account balance to trade with. I started the challenge anyways. The most brilliant thing I did was that I started trading small, using small lot sizes. So whenever I lost on a trade, the losses were small. I held onto my winning trades, to increase my profit. I was able to trade many pairs at a time because I was using 1:500 leverage. I did for this a couple of months and by the end of May 2018, I turned the account to 700 EUROS. It was a long journey for me but I was able to do it. But success is not the end, it's just the beginning. I got carried away and my greed increased. I started to increase my lot sizes and continued to trade many pairs at the same time. And that was the path to failure. Within a month, I lost all the money in my trading account. I lost five months' worth of effort in just a month. Greed killed me and the funniest part was that I didn't realize it until I blew so many accounts afterward. I had lost over $3000 altogether afterward.

Fast forward to a few months later, I got a trading course online and started watching it. It was the guide I was looking for. I studied for a few months and kept on watching the market for ideas from the course. The course took me a few months to complete. It was getting to the end of 2018, so I took a break and started trading again by the beginning of 2019.

February 13, 2019, I deposited 210 EUROS into my trading account and started trading again. By this time, I had had an understanding of the psychological part of trading, I had a better understanding of technical analysis and how to use it with fundamentals. It was a great time to start again and I did. I built the account from 210 euros to over 7K euros in less than three months. By the end of May, I had made over 6k euros profit. I didn't have that goal when I started trading on the account, I just wanted to trade and earn a living from it as I have switched to full-time trading. It was a huge moment for me. But, by June 2019, I withdrew all the money to cater to some needs then. Like I said, success was not the end, it's the beginning. My confidence grew afterward and made me blew few accounts even though I knew the direction the market was going.

What I have come to realize so far is that trading requires a lot of patience. Patience with yourself and with your strategy. You are going to grow if you stay in trading but the pace of your trading comes with self-reflection. The more you reflect on your skills and your actions, the more you come to wisdom on what you are doing and how to make it better. You see, we all go through the same phase; several losses and then winnings. But the difference between successful traders and others is that they have successfully learned from their mistakes.

There was no trading for me in 2020 because I had a lot to deal with at the time, apart from COVID and all. I was not 100% focused on trading, so I stopped and took a break. But I found out about firms that fund traders. And I have been able to select a few to work with.

This year, 2021, has been good so far. I have been able to get to know what trading for firms is all about, and how to successfully trade with a small drawdown. It is quite different from what I have been used and I like the way it's going so far.

Experience is the best teacher and I have learned a lot from all the experiences I have had in the last few years. The pieces are finally coming together and I like the way things are going at the moment.

To all newbies out there and to those that have spent a few years trading, enjoy the journey while it lasts, and don't forget to reflect on everything. You might find just what you are looking for.
