2021 年 6 月，南美地区遭遇了罕见的霜冻和降雪，对巴西咖啡带的大部分土地造成了负面影响。咖啡树对寒冷天气非常敏感，可能会对咖啡作物造成严重伤害，甚至完全摧毁。据初步估计，受到严寒天气影响的土地面积大约为 15 万公顷到 20 万公顷，约为阿拉比卡咖啡豆总耕种面积的 11%。
咖啡豆产量损失的初步估计为 33 万至 54 万吨。这里的损失指的是 2022 年的新收成。如果对树木的影响更严重，损失风险会更大。
国际咖啡组织的数据显示，预计到 2021/22 年度，全球产出几乎无法满足世界需求，咖啡的需求与供应比将从盈余转变为赤字。因此，市场可能会出现咖啡短缺，全球通胀也助长了这一趋势。
