Preliminary data released by Eurostat on Wednesday showed that inflation in the euro area rose to an annual rate of 2% in December, in line with the European Central Bank’s target. Market expectations had also pointed to inflation reaching the ECB’s 2% target, after inflation stood at 2.2% in November, which was later revised down to 2.1%.
