Asia-Pacific markets finished higher on Friday. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 increased by 1.25%, closing at 7,777.7. Japan’s Nikkei 225 added 0.56% to end at 35,025, and the Topix climbed 0.88% to finish at 2,483.3. South Korea’s Kospi advanced by 1.24%, closing at 2,588.43, while the Kosdaq surged 2.57% to 764.43. The Hong Kong Hang Seng index rose by 1.42%, whereas Mainland China’s CSI 300 fell by 0.34%, closing at 3,331.63.
US
Stocks rose on Friday, continuing their strong rebound from Monday’s sharp decline. The broad market index nearly recovered its weekly losses by the end of the week.
The S&P 500 increased by 0.47%, closing at 5,344.16. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.51%, ending at 16,745.30. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up by 51 points, or 0.13%, to finish at 39,497.54.
Commodity
U.S. crude oil rose by over 4% this week as recession concerns subsided and fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East, which could impact production and transportation, weighed on the market.
Oil prices climbed as the S&P 500 improved on Friday, recovering much of the losses from an earlier sharp sell-off.
Gold prices remained stable on Friday following a significant increase in the previous session. This stability was supported by a drop in U.S. Treasury yields and growing expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates in September.
Spot gold was down 0.1% at $2,422.99 per ounce, following a 1.9% gain on Thursday. U.S. gold futures stayed steady at $2,462.
