Former Bank of Japan official: He expects to raise interest rates 3 times this year
Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg on Friday, former Bank of Japan chief economist Toshitaka Sekini said he expects the Bank of Japan to raise its benchmark interest rate up to three more times this year,
The former official explained that his expectations come due to the amount of room available to adjust the Bank of Japan’s highly accommodative monetary policy settings, and added that he expects the first further raising step to come as early as the June meeting.
