都卜勒剑士（Dopplesoldners）是神圣罗马雇佣兵（Landsknechts）的重要组成部分，神圣罗马雇佣兵（Landsknechts）的标准编制是按每400人一个连队（Fahnlein）进行编组，，连队一词“Fahnlein”在德语中原意“小旗”，引申为“拥有一面旗帜的单位”，一般每个连队里都会安排100个都卜勒剑士（Dopplesoldners）。由于德国重型双手剑需要专门的技巧，剑手得经过一定的训练才能掌握，使用德国重型双手剑的多是老兵。所以在神圣罗马雇佣兵（Landsknechts）中，都卜勒剑士（Dopplesoldners）的薪酬是其他兵种的双倍。都卜勒原意就是双酬的意思，即拿双倍工资的士兵。由于他们一般拿着德国重型双手剑(Zweihänder)，因此又称他们为双手剑士。
