弗里德曼系美国著名经济学家，芝加哥大学经济学教授、第二代芝加哥经济学派领军人物。弗里德曼以研究宏观经济学、微观经济学、经济史、统计学、及主张自由放任资本主义而闻名，1976年取得诺贝尔经济学奖，以表扬他在消费分析、货币供给理论及历史、和稳定政策复杂性等范畴的贡献，被誉为20世纪最重要且最具影响力的经济学家之一。
