首都科技发展战略研究院和中国社会科学院城市与竞争力研究中心近日发布的《中国城市科技创新发展报告2020》显示，我国城市科技创新力明显增长。在我国289个样本城市中，北京市以0.8741的高分领衔，深圳和上海以0.7798、0.7443分列二三位。
报告对我国14个规模较大的城市群科技创新发展水平进行评估。结果表明，长三角、珠三角、京津冀三大城市群处于第一梯队，大幅领先于其他城市群。长三角城市群内27个城市中，24个城市进入100强榜单，上海、南京、杭州、苏州等4个城市处于前10强，无锡、合肥、宁波、常州等4个城市处于20强。
首都科技发展战略研究院院长关成华表示，除了第一梯队三大城市群外，位列第二梯队的长江中游城市群、山东半岛城市群、成渝城市群和海峡西岸城市群的中心城市正着力加快重大科技基础设施等新型基础设施建设，谋划布局综合性国家科学中心，力求在科技创新发展中抢得先机，成为中国城市群创新发展的第四极。
但关成华也指出，虽然部分区域科技水平增长较好，但我国大多数城市的科技创新发展指数处于较低水平区间。报告显示，我国城市2020年科技创新发展指数均值为0.332，中位数仅为0.29
