Nikkei Falls 0.4% as Metals, Brokerage Stocks Weigh

Japan's Nikkei Stock Average closed 0.4% lower at 50339.48, dragged by metals and brokerage stocks on the final trading day of 2025. The benchmark index has risen about 26% this year, led by chip and construction stocks.
Kioxia Holdings has increased more than sixfold and SoftBank Group has gained 92% in 2025. General contractors Taisei and Shimizu have more than doubled, supported by expectations for higher corporate capex and government infrastructure spending.
Investors will be focusing on Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's policy steps to bolster the economy. USD/JPY is at 156.04, compared with 156.06 as of 5 p.m. Eastern time Monday.
The 10-year Japanese government bond yield rises 1 bp to 2.065%.
