Brazil Stocks Higher at Close of Trade; Bovespa Up 1.18%

  • Brazilian stocks closed higher, with the Bovespa index rising 1.18%, driven by gains in the public utilities, electric power, and financials sectors.

Investing - Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.18%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Rede D'Or So Luiz SA, which rose 4.87% or 2.19 points to trade at 47.19 at the close. Meanwhile, Hapvida Participacoes e Investimentos added 4.29% or 0.63 points to end at 15.33 and ISA Energia Brasil SA Preferencial was up 4.20% or 1.14 points to 28.31 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Braskem SA, which fell 4.91% or 0.39 points to trade at 7.55 at the close. Sendas Distribuidora SA declined 1.95% or 0.16 points to end at 8.04 and Companhia Siderurgica Nacional was down 2.06% or 0.20 points to 9.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the B3 Stock Exchange by 539 to 398 and 60 ended unchanged.
Shares in ISA Energia Brasil SA Preferencial rose to 3-years highs; up 4.20% or 1.14 to 28.31.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.12% to 33.58.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.12% or 5.40 to $4,333.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.28% or 0.73 to hit $56.51 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 2.27% or 8.40 to trade at $360.90.
USD/BRL was unchanged 0.05% to 5.42, while EUR/BRL rose 0.11% to 6.37.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 97.96. (AI)
