China announced it will extend its visa-free entry policy for citizens of 45 countries, including France, Germany, and Spain, until December 31, 2026, and expand the scheme to include Sweden starting November 10, the foreign ministry said Monday. The extension covers 32 European nations as well as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and several countries in South America and the Gulf region. Originally set to expire at the end of this year, the policy allows eligible visitors to enter China for business, tourism, family visits, or transit for up to 30 days without a visa. The initiative is part of Beijing’s efforts to revive tourism and strengthen global ties after years of strict COVID-19 controls. The U.S., Canada, and Britain remain excluded from the program. The move also reflects China’s push to deepen engagement with the EU, one of its key trading partners.
