UK retail sales volumes rose 0.5% month-on-month in September 2025, defying forecasts of a 0.2% fall, following an upwardly revised 0.6% gain in August. This marked the fourth consecutive monthly rise, bringing sales to their highest level since July 2022. Growth was driven by a 0.9% increase in non-food stores, particularly clothing stores, while non-store retailers also performed strongly. Sales in on-store retailers also jumped to their highest level since February 2022, with online jewellers reporting strong demand for gold. Sales volumes increased 0.9% in Q3 on the quarter and were 1.0% higher year-on-year, supported by good weather in July and August, which boosted clothing sales and non-store activity. Online sales values climbed 1.4% on the month and 5.6% year-on-year, marking their eighth consecutive monthly increase.
