Hungary Retail Sales Growth Rises in August

Retail sales in Hungary rose by 2.4% year-on-year in August 2025, following a 1.7% growth in the previous month. The improvement was driven largely by higher sales growth in non-food products (4.9% vs 2.9% in July), while trade remained unchanged for food, beverages, and tobacco at 2.3%. At the same time, sales in automotive fuel grew by 2.2%, rebounding from a 2.4% decline in July. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales increased by 0.8% in August, recovering from a 0.5% drop in the preceding period. Considering January to August, retail sales were 2.8% higher compared to the same period a year earlier.
