Slovakia Retail Sales Fall 0.7% in August

Retail sales in Slovakia fell by 0.7% year-on-year in August 2025, reversing a 0.4% increase in July. Sales declined sharply for other household equipment (-5.6% vs 2.4% in July), while they dropped further for food, beverages, and tobacco (-14.7% vs -7.5%), ICT equipment (-2.9% vs -0.8%), sales via stalls and markets (-10.8% vs -6.3%), and trade outside stores, stalls, or markets (-12.5% vs -4.5%). Moreover, sales growth moderated for other goods in specialized stores, easing to 4.7% from 8% previously. Meanwhile, growth was recorded for goods sold in non-specialized stores (4.4% vs 2.5%) and a rebound for automotive fuel (0.5% vs -3.1%). On a monthly basis, retail trade was unchanged in August, following a 0.5% gain in July.
