Colombia’s unemployment rate fell to 8.6% in August 2025 from 9.7% a year earlier. In the 13 main cities, the rate dropped to 7.8% from 10%. For the June–August rolling quarter, the highest unemployment was in Quibdó (24.4%), Riohacha (14.2%) and Ibagué (12.5%), while the lowest were in Cali (7.8%), Villavicencio (7.3%) and Medellín (6.4%). The population outside the labor force reached 14.69 million, mostly engaged in household work (54.4%) and studying (24.3%). The participation rate stood at 63.9% and the employment rate at 58.4%, compared with 64.5% and 58.3% a year earlier.
