Montenegro Trade Deficit Widens in August

Montenegro’s trade deficit widened to EUR 351.9 million in August 2025 from EUR 317 million in the same month last year. Exports plunged 28% year-on-year to EUR 38.4 million, while imports rose 5% to EUR 390.3 million. From January to August, the trade deficit increased to EUR 2,521.8 million compared to EUR 2,326.9 million in the same period last year. On a cumulative basis, exports fell 4.6% to EUR 365.7 million, dragged down by declines in manufactured goods classified by material (-42.4%), machinery and transport equipment (-28.1%), and miscellaneous manufactured articles (-6.4%). Meanwhile, imports rose 6.5% to EUR 2,887.5 million, driven by higher purchases of chemicals (+28.6%), mineral fuels (+13.2%), beverages and tobacco (+10.1%), and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+10.2%). Import coverage by exports fell to 12.7%, down from 14.2% a year earlier.
