The number of registered unemployed in mainland France fell by 11.7 thousand people to 3.022 million in August of 2025, holding the pullback from the three-year high at the start of the year but steading firmly above the lows through 2023 and 2024. The drop from the previous month was owed to lower unemployment among core-aged individuals (-15.6 thousand to 1.726 million) and those aged above 50 years (-10 thousand to 789 thousand). In turn, unemployment rose for those aged below 25 years (13.9 thousand to 507 thousand).
