Japanese Shares Fall on Wall Street Weakness

The Nikkei 225 slipped 0.1% to around 45,450 and the Topix fell 0.5% to 3,147 on Wednesday, erasing the prior session's gains after a soft lead from Wall Street.
US equities pulled back from record highs on Tuesday as Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell flagged stretched valuations and noted uncertainty around the rate-cut path amid a difficult policy backdrop.
Sentiment was also pressured by doubts over the durability of the AI-driven rally.
At home, PMI data showed September manufacturing activity remained in contraction despite expectations for growth, while services activity expanded at a slower pace.
Losses were led by key names including Advantest (-1.3%), Sony Group (-3.4%), Fujikura (-1.3%), Keyence (-1.6%) and Sanrio (-2%).
