Consumer prices in Brunei fell 0.4% year-over-year in August 2025, a sharper decline than July's 0.2% fall, marking the sixth consecutive month of deflation. Prices continued to decrease for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.4% vs -0.4% in July), housing and utilities (-0.1% vs -0.1%), transport (-0.4% vs -0.2%), communication (-0.3% vs -0.3%), recreation and culture (-1.9% vs -2.3%), and miscellaneous goods and services (-1.4% vs -0.2%). Clothing prices also shrank 0.2%, reversing a 2.5% rise in July. Meanwhile, price growth eased slightly for health (0.9% vs 1.0%) and restaurants and hotels (0.2% vs 0.3%), while inflation held steady for furnishings and household maintenance (0.1%) and education (0.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.2%, the same pace as July, pointing the fourth straight monthly decline.
