The annual inflation rate in Bangladesh eased to 8.29% in August 2025 from 8.55% in the previous month. This marked the lowest reading since July 2022, as prices moderated in the majority of the sub-indices, namely: transport (6.75% vs 7.08% in July), housing and utilities (7.62% vs 7.8%), clothing and footwear (13.89% vs 15.8%), alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (12.57% vs 13.37%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (8.11% vs 9.27%), health (3.8% vs 4.1%), communication (7.74% vs 7.87%), recreation and culture (8.47% vs 8.9%), restaurants and hotels (9.65% vs 10.54%), and miscellaneous goods and services (15.03% vs 15.19%). Conversely, costs accelerated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (7.6% vs 7.56%) and education (8.97% vs 8.57%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose to a one-year high of 2.36% in August from 2.23% in the preceding month.
