9th September 2025 - (Hong Kong) The Hang Seng Index opened higher on Wednesday, gaining 77 points to reach 25,711, with its advance accelerating throughout the morning. The benchmark surged by as much as 312 points to hit 25,946, marking its highest level in nearly four years.
At the time of writing, the index was up 287 points, or 1.12%, to stand at 25,921, cementing a third consecutive day of gains. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index also climbed strongly, adding 112 points (1.23%) to 9,234. Meanwhile, the tech-focused Hang Seng Tech Index outperformed, rising 93 points, or 1.61%, to 5,846. Main board turnover was HK$63.5 billion.
Tencent Holdings advanced 1.2%, while Alibaba Group jumped 2.6%. JD Group saw a solid 3% gain. Significant momentum came from healthcare-focused tech names, with Ali Health soaring 6.7% and JD Health up 3.2%. Short-video platform Kuaishou was a notable outperformer, surging 4.5%. Bucking the positive trend, Meituan dipped 1.4%. Xiaomi Corporation edged up 1.1%.
Insurance giant AIA led the charge, rising 3.1%. Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing ( HKEX ) gained 1.3%, and insurer Ping An of China was up 1.2%. Banking stalwart HSBC Holdings registered a more modest increase of 0.3%.
