India's equity benchmarks were off to a muted start on Friday, after two consecutive sessions of declines, as sentiment stayed weak following the implementation of steep U.S. tariffs on Indian goods earlier in the week.
The Nifty 50 fell 0.14% to 24,466.7 points and the BSE Sensex eased 0.09% to 80,010.83 as of 9:15 a.m. IST.
Twelve of the 16 major sectors logged losses at open. The small-caps and mid-caps traded flat.
However, the benchmarks dropped about 2% each in the last two sessions, pressured by mounting concerns about the impact of U.S. tariffs.
U.S. President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods over New Delhi's purchase of Russian oil, adding to the earlier 25% duty.
