The Nikkei 225 climbed 0.5% to around 41,000 and the broader Topix added 0.45% to 2,980 on Thursday, marking a third consecutive session of gains for Japanese equities.
The rally mirrored overnight strength on Wall Street, driven by upbeat corporate earnings, as investors largely shrugged off President Donald Trump's latest tariff moves.
Trump announced a 100% tariff on imported semiconductors, excluding firms building in the US, and doubled tariffs on Indian goods to 50% over continued Russian oil imports.
Among notable gainers were SoftBank Group (+2%), Mitsubishi UFJ (+1.5%), and Ryohin Keikaku (+1.9%).
However, chip-related stocks lagged, with Tokyo Electron down 3%, Disco losing 0.9%, and Advantest slipping 0.4%.
