加拿大央行无计划发行央行数字货币
当许多国家的央行正在探索中央银行数字货币（CBDC）的概念时，加拿大央行表示无意发行CBDC，至少在目前情况下如此。
加拿大央行副行长Timothy Lane在题为“数字时代的货币与支付”的演讲中表示，除非竞争者将资金撤出市场，否则央行不会看到发行这种数字货币的好处。
“我们得出的结论是，目前尚无令人信服的理由发行CBDC。”Lane表示，”只要加拿大的支付生态系统已经过现代化改造，并且能够满足特定目的，加拿大人将继续受到现有支付生态系统的良好服务。”
但是，他认为，私有数字货币的广泛采用可能会迫使央行重新考虑其发行CBDC的决定。
他补充说：“稳定币更有可能被广泛接受，相应地，也更有可能进一步改变货币和支付的世界。”
Lane特别指出了Facebook的Libra及其在挑战当前货币体系方面的潜力。但是，他对Libra是否可以通过监管审查表示怀疑。
尽管有副行长的坚定声明，加拿大央行依然是日本领导的主要中央银行集团的参与者之一，该集团的成立是为了研究发行CBDC的可行性。
