全球供应不足的风险引发了市场对大米价格上涨的担忧。根据泰国大米出口商协会的数据，泰国米价已达到每吨648美元。去年以来，大米价格已上涨近50%。亚洲和非洲地区数十亿人的日常饮食中离不开大米，价格上涨可能加剧通胀压力，并增加进口成本。第二大米出口国泰国，现正鼓励农民转种耗水较少的作物，以应对干旱天气。
全球第一大米出口国印度已下令禁止除蒸谷米和印度香米外的大米出口，以稳定国内大米价格。由于异常天气影响产量，印度国内大米价格近几周达到多年来的新高。印度、泰国均为大米的主要出口国，全球大米供应面临重大威胁。
除印度外，俄罗斯、阿联酋也在近期宣布暂停出口大米。
