当地时间6日晚，美国前总统奥巴马发表声明，对美国国会大厦的暴力事件表示谴责。
据美国有线电视新闻网（CNN）6日报道，奥巴马在当日发表声明谴责美国国会大厦的暴力事件。他在声明中写道，“历史将被记住，今天发生在国会大厦的暴力事件，是由一位在任总统煽动的，他继续在合法选举的结果上毫无根据的撒谎，对我们国家来说是极其耻辱和令人羞愧的时刻。”此外，奥巴马还在声明中恳求共和党人“选择现实，并采取措施灭火”。
当地时间6日下午，美国国会大厦发生暴力事件，数百名特朗普支持者在此期间进行示威活动，以向正在进行的国会联席会议施压。抗议者们攻破了国会大厦，使国会不得不紧急休会，被迫暂停选举结果认证程序。
据此前报道，美国前总统克林顿也于此前对此暴力事件表示谴责。他在一份声明中写道：“今天，我们面临着对国会大厦、宪法和国家前所未有的攻击。”
