美联储主席鲍威尔周三在利率决议后的发布会上表示，新冠疫情正在影响经济和就业。美联储坚决致力于实现物价稳定和充分就业的双重目标，前方的道路仍然充满不确定性，在目标实现之前将继续维持宽松政策。
鲍威尔在讲话中表示，货币政策继续给经济强有力的支持，在支持经济复苏方面发挥着关键作用。而财政政策的支持将有助于抵御经济低迷，限制对经济的持续损害。
鲍威尔称，有一些方面的进展表明今年晚些时候的经济前景将有所改善。事实证明，经济比预期的更有韧性。然而经济离实现就业和通胀目标还有很长的路要走，可能需要一些时间才能取得实质性进展，距离全面复苏还有很长的路要走。
美联储此前公布最新利率决议，将基准利率维持在0%-0.25%区间不变，符合市场的普遍预期。此次会议是美联储2021年的首次利率决议。
美联储在声明中重申债券购买指引，将继续每月购买800亿美元的国债和400亿美元的住房抵押贷款支持证券。美联储表示，经济和就业复苏步伐有所放缓，重申“继续购买资产直至美国经济‘出现实质性进一步进展’”这一承诺。
