Following the resignation of Jacinda Ardern from the highest leadership seat in New Zealand, parliament decided to appoint Chris Hipkins as New Zealand's next prime minister on Wednesday (25/1/2023). Ardern's sudden decision to resign as PM of New Zealand on the grounds that she no longer has the power to lead the country, made the ruling Labor Party parliamentarians in this country decide to elect Chris Hipkins, as the main candidate to fill the prime minister's seat. Known as the caucus of the Labor Party, Hipkins, who is now 44 years old, has built a reputation for his success in dealing with the Covid-19 that hit New Zealand. Prior to entering the world of politics, Hipkins had studied politics and criminology at the University of Victoria. He even worked in the industrial training sector. However, in 2008 Hipkins began to be actively involved in the world of parliament. His sensitive, sympathetic, tough, and competent nature made Hipkins a kind and easygoing conversationalist. As well as being active in politics, Hipkins describes himself as an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys mountain biking, hiking and swimming. Hipkins began his political career in 2008 by serving as Minister of Education and Minister of Public Services for more than five years.
