更重要的是诈骗风险。由于缺乏监管，一些交易所很容易操纵行情，出现人为爆仓、限制提币甚至直接卷款跑路等，让投资者血本无归。
现实中，有的投资者在虚拟货币价格大幅下跌之际，想追加保证金，以避免爆仓，却遭遇系统“瘫痪”，不能实施平仓或补仓操作，只能眼睁睁看着资金打水漂；有的投资者想继续加仓来降低均价，以降低被爆仓的风险，却突遇平台规则改变，无法追加保证金，只能“静待”爆仓，等等。
需要指出的是，我国各类虚拟货币交易平台并无合法资质，虚拟货币及其相关交易的合法性也尚未明确。一旦出现相关纠纷，投资者则面临难以维权甚至无处维权的境地，只能白白承受经济损失。
