据瑞士瑞信银行推算，2019年中国个人净资产超过10万美元的成年人数量约为1.13亿人，约占中国人口的前10％，超过了美国的1.03亿人。中国的物价低于欧美，收入水平也存在差异，但净资产超过10万美元基本上相当于去海外旅行、购买奢侈品牌的“小富翁”群体。从全球范围来看，此类人群可称为中间阶层。另一方面，截至2020年6月，美国被称为“millionaire（百万富翁）”、净资产超过100万美元的成年人数量为2027万人，远超其他国家。但在近年来美国财富向富裕阶层集中的情况下，其他人群的净资产几乎没有增加，导致净资产超过10万美元的人数被中国反超。
