从图上看，封面中间是一支印有美国国旗的口罩，不过这支口罩仅有一半，边缘处还是被撕裂的形状。封面上还有“美国现实”的醒目标题。《时代》周刊在推文中发布其最新封面时配文：“就算乔·拜登赢了，他将管理的也是唐纳德·特朗普（‘治下’）的美国。”
《时代》认为，无论特朗普是赢是输，特朗普都给美国政治格局带来了持久的结构性转变，引发了一定程度的愤怒、怨恨以及怀疑，这对他的继任者来说将很难克服。《时代》周刊发布封面之际，美国大选的计票工作仍在如火如荼地进行中。
