Aussie data dump: Final Retail Sales miss prior, Trade Balance beat at A$+8,028 mln

Australia has come out with two sets of important data, final Retail Sales and the Trade Balance. 

Retail Sales

Final data missed the prior 1.3% MoM arriving at 1.1 MoM.

Preliminary estimates showed another firm 1.1% gain in Australia April retail also.

''The gain was led by NSW and Vic, both up 2% with sales flat across the rest of Aus,'' analysts at Westpac explained. 

''By store-type, cafes and restaurants were a standout, recording a 2.5% rise. The final release may see slight revisions and will include the full survey detail – sales by storetype, state, firm size and online vs in store.''

Trade Balance

Australia April balance goods/svcs A$+8,028 mln, s/adj (Reuters poll: A$+7,900 mln)

  • Exports +3 pct MoM, seasonally adjusted.
  • Imports -3 pct MoM, seasonally adjusted.

AUD/USD was uneventful on the data and continues to be stuck in consolidation. 

AUD/USD round-tripped from 0.7755 to 0.7716 and back overnight and sits around 0.7750 at the time of writing, flat on the session.
