9月16日（周三），石油分析师Cyril Widdershoven撰文称，英国石油有关石油需求高峰已经过去的说法是错误的，并提出了三大理由进行反驳。
英国石油放言“石油需求高峰已经过去”
英国石油在展望中指出，石油消耗量已经创下高峰，可能永远无法回到疫情危机爆发前的水平。在该公司看来，石油需求持续增长的时代已经结束。
英国石油还预计，2021年石油需求将增长660万桶/日，这也比之前的预测低了40万桶/日。
报告指出，如果各国政府在减少碳排放方面更加积极，石油需求可能永远无法从目前的低迷中恢复。报告还指出，主要由于可再生能源的发展，未来30年石油需求可能会大幅下降。
