一般情况下，市场倾向于表现出以下几个特征：
(1) 价格变动在百分之八十的时间里是处于上升趋势或下降趋势中，而只有百分之二十的时间是处于顶部或底部位置，因此交易者需要警惕价格的逆转，而且逆转的时间较短，表现较为迅速。
(2) 价格变动在百分之八十的时间里都是理性的，而只有百分之二十的时间是非理性、以人们心理预期急剧变动来推动的，因此交易者需要意识到投资者情绪爆发的时间是非常短的，而此时抓住市场机遇又是及其重要的。通常快速大幅度的急跌之后，容易出现快速大幅的反弹。
(3) 价格变动在百分之八十的时间里所提供的市场机遇都是非常有限的，而余下百分之二十的时间里却包含有非常多，并且是盈亏比较好的机会，因此交易者需要耐心地等待合适的交易时机。
